bmj;383/dec08_3/p2889/FAF1faMichael Aziz (“Mike”) was born and educated in north west London. A caring and compassionate man, he was naturally drawn to the specialty of elderly care medicine. He was appointed as a consultant physician at North Middlesex Hospital in 2001. Mike helped develop the elderly care service and provided input to local nursing homes in order to reduce hospital admissions. Beneath his gentle demeanour were a sharp intellect and a special sense of humour. He was committed to medical education and acted as a PACES (Practical Assessment of Clinical Examination Skills) examiner for the Royal College of Physicians, as well as being an educational supervisor to many trainees, who always spoke so highly of his support and mentorship.Mike was diagnosed with adult acute lymphocytic leukaemia in January 2021 and died after complications of a bone marrow transplant.
