Joanna Kay Banbery
bmj;383/nov09_14/p2572/FAF1faJoanna Kay Banbery trained in psychiatry in Leeds before specialising in addiction psychiatry at Leeds addiction unit. She later worked in the Barnsley service and retired in 2017. She enjoyed working with what could sometimes be a demanding patient group. She was highly respected for her sound advice and well liked by both colleagues and patients, always maintaining a wicked sense of humour. Training was a keen interest. Through her research involvement, publications, and teaching, she made an important contribution to the services she worked in and the wider area of addictions. She took a characteristically organised and determined approach to managing her final illness and bore it with resilience and a dry wit, always giving support to her family and friends. She leaves her husband, Joe, and two daughters.
