Doctors’ strikes: Government agrees to hold talks with consultants
The UK government has agreed to hold talks with consultants’ leaders in a bid to avert more strikes by senior doctors in England over pay. The BMA’s Consultants Committee said it would pause any announcement of further strike dates until November to allow time to try to resolve the ongoing industrial action.The Department of Health and Social Care continued to emphasise that “headline pay will not be on the table,” but its agreement to talk to the BMA has raised hopes that leaders will be able to find a way to end the strike action.
