Medical student is held in custody after three people die in Rotterdam shooting
A medical student has been remanded in custody in the Netherlands after the fatal shooting of three people in Rotterdam on 28 September. The victims included a general practitioner and teacher at Erasmus University Medical Centre (Erasmus MC), one of the largest teaching hospitals in western Europe.The suspect, named only as Fouad L, had previously shown “psychotic behaviour” and had a conviction for animal abuse, public prosecutors confirmed, information they had previously passed to Erasmus MC. In a statement the hospital’s chair and dean of the faculty of medicine, Stefan Sleijfer, said that the organisation had responded by requiring the medical student to undergo psychological testing before receiving his diploma.“The student had completed all the necessary credits to receive a diploma,” said Sleijfer. “The examination board then set a condition for a diploma that he would undergo a psychological examination.
