Sudan’s worsening health conditions see children die of measles and malnutrition
A lack of global attention on the crisis in Sudan is leading to the deaths of hundreds of children from preventable diseases and malnutrition, the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) has warned.The agency said that more than 1200 refugee children aged under 5 died in nine camps in Sudan’s White Nile state from 15 May to 14 September from a combination of suspected measles and high malnutrition, among 3100 suspected cases. In other parts of the country more than 500 suspected cases of cholera have been reported, along with outbreaks of dengue fever and malaria.Filippo Grandi, head of the UNHCR, said, “The world has the means and the money to prevent every one of these deaths from measles or malnutrition.
