Consultants in England have announced plans to take two further days of strike next month, on 19 and 20 September, if the government continued to refuse to agree to pay talks, the BMA has said.The news came as junior doctors prepared to take strike action for four days from 11 August to 15 August.1Consultants are also due to take industrial action on 24 and 25 August, with cover based on “Christmas Day” levels, meaning that emergency care would still be provided.In July the government made what it described as a “final offer” of a 6% pay increase for doctors in England and an extra £1250 consolidated payment for junior doctors for 2023-24, after accepting recommendations made by the Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration (DDRB).2 The BMA described the offer as a “savage real terms pay cut.”In a letter to England’s health and social care secretary, Steve Barclay, sent…
