Physical activity and fallsThe World Health Organization recommends 150 to 300 minutes a week of moderate intensity physical activity for older adults (Br J Sports Med doi:10.1136/bjsports-2020-102955). Findings from the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health suggest that this is good advice. Among 8000 women born between 1946 and 1951, those who took this amount of physical activity in their leisure time reduced their risk of falls resulting in injury by around a quarter compared with those who took no exercise (Age Ageing doi:10.1093/ageing/afad108).Physical activity and Parkinson’s diseaseOn the subject of physical activity, data from a French longitudinal study show that levels had been lower in women who developed Parkinson’s disease than in controls.
