William Fairbank Doe

bmj;379/oct27_9/o2566/FAF1faWilliam Fairbank Doe (“Bill”), an academic gastroenterologist, professor of medicine at Sydney University, dean of the University of Birmingham Medical School, and provost of the Aga Khan University has died at the age of 81.Bill was born north of Sydney. Coming from an academic family, after school at Newington College, Sydney, he entered medical training at the University of Sydney. His subsequent career progress was marked by a lively interest in exploring all opportunities for widening his experience and knowledge. This included time working in Papua New Guinea, which taught him the art of applying his medical skills in challenging situations. He came to the UK originally to train in gastroenterology with Geraint James at the Royal Northern Hospital.
