SAN FRANCISCO — During the worst moments at Theranos, Tyler Shultz ran. To burn off the stress, he logged 20 miles at a clip in the mountains. And when that didn’t work, he drank alcohol.

“I was just totally isolated,” Shultz said. “I was told that the only people I could talk to about this were my wife, my priest, and my lawyer. And I wasn’t married, I’m not religious, and my lawyers are extremely expensive.”
