STAT Plus: Prosecutors identified ‘Pharma Co. X’ as central to alleged opioid kickback scheme. Was it Purdue?
Federal prosecutors this week announced a $145 million settlement with an electronic health records company to resolve criminal and civil allegations that the company took kickbacks from an opioid manufacturer to help promote opioid painkillers through its software.
The opioid company, which allegedly paid nearly $1 million, was not named, or charged, by the government — court documents identify it only as “Pharma Co. X.” But evidence reviewed by STAT points to one company: Purdue Pharma, the maker of OxyContin.
