Consultant who claimed for shifts covered by his salary is struck off

An obstetrician and gynaecologist who claimed pay for weekend shifts already covered by his salary, and for shifts for which he never turned up, has been struck off the UK medical register.Ayman Swidan submitted forms claiming, as extra hours, five weekends in 2019 that he was supposed to work as part of his basic job responsibilities, despite knowing that he had already been compensated for these hours in his salary, a medical practitioners tribunal found.Swidan, who was then working as an associate specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology at Queen’s Hospital in Burton on Trent, also claimed for 10 additional shifts that he never attended. He asked consultant colleagues to sign off the documents, which they did, assuming the information in them was correct, the tribunal found.Swidan did not attend the hearing and was not legally represented.
