Hospital Breech Clinic
Did you know if your baby is breech, you can book an appointment into a hospital breech clinic? It can be challenging to find midwives and doctors supportive in vaginal breech birth. Also, you may want to find a health service to attempt to turn your baby head down. In other words, perform a procedure called ‘external cephalic version’. A small number of hospitals have set up a service specifically for when the baby is bottom first, otherwise known as the breech position. Generally, the hospital will not accept bookings earlier than 35 to 35 weeks of pregnancy; This is due to the possibility of the baby turning head down on its own before this time.
In the hospital breech clinic, the midwife or doctor will explore options open to you. In other words, they will discuss whether or not you would like an external cephalic version; the procedure to turn the baby head down. Furthermore, the midwife or doctor will go through options for birth – would you like a vaginal breech birth or is a caesarean section more appropriate? Also, they’ll provide you with written information to aid your decision making. In conclusion, a hospital breech clinic aims to help you decide what is right for you.
To make your life easier, we have created this resource page listing all the hospital breech clinics that we are aware exist. However, PBB needs your help. We rely on our readers to let us know of services, so if you know of a hospital breech clinic not listed here, please let us know.
